Why Community Matters

Connection

"It is obvious that all created things are connected one to another by a linkage complete and perfect, even, for example, as are the members of the human body. Note how all the members and component parts of the human body are connected one to another. In the same way, all the members of this endless universe are linked one to another."

Thrive

“The world of humanity is like the human body. Within this organism, millions of cells, diverse in form and function, play their part in maintaining a healthy system. The principle that governs the functioning of the body is cooperation. Its various parts do not compete for resources; rather, each cell, from its inception, is linked to a continuous process of giving and receiving.”

At SDCC, That’s Why We Value Community

Many parts. One body.

Just as our clinic serves to bring connection and healing within the body, we believe that all people are like many parts of one body, and that when one part thrives, it helps the whole body thrive. And so, we are committed to helping the people of our community thrive for the good of all.

Here are some ways that our clinic engages with the community:

Giving Back

We set aside time every quarter to support local needs and projects.

SDCC Team Service Days

Our whole team volunteers together several times a year. Think sweat, smiles, messy T-shirts, and a whole lot of heart.

We believe that serving together strengthens our bond as a team and our bond with Denton.

More Ways We Engage with Our Community

Meaningful Conversations Denton

Every Tuesday Evening | 6–7:30 PM

A diverse group of Denton locals gets together to talk about real things that matter. We start with a short selection from the Bahá’í teachings, then open the floor for reflection, respectful dialogue, and shared learning.

Healing Racism Book Club

Every 3rd Saturday | 5–7 PM

We read one book each quarter on racial equity, then gather to talk honestly about unity, justice, and what it means to build bridges. All are welcome, whether you read the book or not.

The Bahá’í Faith

The Baha’i Faith, the world’s newest independent global belief system, teaches the oneness of God, the unity of humanity, and the essential harmony of religion. It is the world’s second-most widespread religion after Christianity, spanning the globe and working to unite it.

The Baha’i teachings promote the agreement of science and religion, gender equality, and the elimination of all prejudice and racism. Baha’is believe in each person’s capacity to find the truth for themselves, and there is no clergy — Baha’is gather together in democratically-led communities and welcome everyone.

Baha’is accept the validity of each of the founders and prophets of the major world religions and believe in progressive revelation. This unique Baha’i principle views every great Faith as a link in a single, spiritual, system, progressively revealed, similar to how chapters in a book tell an evolving story — by God to humanity.
